Jiwoong Jang was born and raised in Seoul, Korea in 1985. From early childhood, he was sensitive to observing his surroundings. He grew up with spending his time alone to take long walks and watching the sceneries with various vantage points. An unremitting longing for finding himself and passionate interest in music made him come to New York in his late 20’s. It was not easy for him to adopt his new life in New York. In the hard times, he realized that photography became his voice, which means a lot to him. Soon after graduating from Music Production School, he started to pursue photography and received his BFA from School of Visual Arts, New York in 2018. Now, he keeps his work at MFA in Photography of Hartford Art School, CT.

Jiwoong Jang’s imagery reflects happenstance and pathos. He also reveals democratic beauty, and a power of observant in himself.  As a not only outsider but also a strange insider in the United States, he continues to put how he looks at America into frames.

Currently, he lives and works in New York.
